This past weekend was a busy time for the members of the Craigmyle Historic Society. Saturday saw the group feeding a large number of hungry folk at a local auction sale. Compliments about the breakfast bun; the tasty beef on a bun; homemade pies and tarts and fresh doughnuts were free flowing. Charlton’s Auction Service did an excellent job of promoting the CHS concession during the sale. At the conclusion of the sale, the Auction Service used their skills to auction off seven remaining whole pies for the benefit of the CHS. Locals were keen bidders and pies sold from $47 - $100, averaging out to $70 a pie!
When my son-in-law bid a pie up to $100, I wanted to jump up and yell, “Hold the auction for an hour! I have a whole bunch of pies in the freezer!” It was all in good fun and the CHS sincerely appreciates all who patronized them on Saturday.
The farm family sponsoring the auction sale was very impressed at the condition that the car garage, where the concession was served from, was left in. Kodoos to this competent group!
Tired CHS members dragged themselves home late Saturday afternoon, only to rise early and serve the monthly pancake breakfast in the church basement on Sunday morning. Although the attendance was down, all present enjoyed a first rate breakfast. The draw, a huge chocolate goodie basket was won by Linda Norlie. Linda, you are going to be an even more popular Grandma than usual for awhile!
It is with sadness that I report the recent death of Darrell Turner. Darrell, the youngest of three boys, was born and raised on the Turner family farm north-west of Craigmyle. He attended Craigmyle School until its closure finishing his education in Delia and then becoming involved in the seismic business. Darrel and his wife Cindy purchased land close to the original Turner farm where they made their home until moving to Hanna at the time of Darrel’s failing health. The Craigmyle community sends sincere condolences to Darrell’s wife, Cindy; his father, Jack; and brothers Dale and Bruce and their families. It is a tragedy when one so young leaves us.
Birthday Greetings go out to Ken Morlock on May 12; Bradley Bramfield; Jim Norlie and Scott Stern all sharing May 14; Clayton Faechner and Sherry Lock on May 16; Brett Rees on May 17 and Laureen Strellioff on May 18. Have a great day!
