Ver­dant Val­ley Eye Opener

The fam­ily of Doris Wade held their third suc­cess­ful week­end with their mother, grand­mother and great­grand­mother at the Ver­dant Val­ley Com­mu­nity Cen­ter on May 5 – 7. They are learn­ing to quilt with the in­struc­tion of Doris and en­joy­ing some spe­cial fam­ily to­gether time. There were 28 present for the pot luck sup­per on Satur­day evening. This time two of Doris’s great-grand­daugh­ters from Cran­brook, BC (grand­daugh­ters of Terri Wade) were present for the week­end. Some friends and neigh­bours also dropped in to visit and help with the quilt­ing. What a great fam­ily oc­ca­sion.

The BCF Field House was the scene of the 2017 High School grad­u­a­tion for Drumheller Val­ley Sec­ondary School on Satur­day, May 13, 2017. 67 stu­dents re­ceived their diplo­mas in a cer­e­mony on Satur­day morn­ing. Grad­u­at­ing from our com­mu­nity are Liam McDougald and Kas­sidy Pow­ell. Rachel Robin­son (grand­daugh­ter of Don and Car­men Howard) and Teaghan Coultes (who lived for a while in our com­mu­nity) were also part of the grad­u­at­ing class. Liam McDougald gave the trib­ute to the par­ents. El­son and Pat McDougald and Ron and He­len Leon­hardt pre­sented two of the four­teen Diploma Sub­ject awards. Forty spe­cial awards were pre­sented to de­serv­ing stu­dents. Liam McDougald won the DVSS Spirit Award. Kas­sidy Pow­ell won the Drumheller Chi­ro­prac­tic Cen­ter Sci­ence Schol­ar­ship award and shared the Drumheller Fam­ily Schol­ar­ship award. Teaghan Coultes won two awards. We con­grat­u­late all the grad­u­ates on reach­ing this spe­cial mile­stone in their life and wish you all ev­ery suc­cess in the up­com­ing ex­ams and in your fu­ture goals.
