It will be a very brief report from Dalum this week and this is often the case during the very busiest parts of the farming year. Seeding is progressing well in the district with only a few small showers slowing the advance of the activity in the fields.
Congratulations to Jayden Nail who was part of the Drumheller Valley Secondary School grade twelve graduating class which celebrated the end of their high school education last Saturday. The ceremonies took place at the Badlands Community Facility where they began with the presentation of various awards and later the graduates returned, dressed in their finest, to take part in the grand march which preceded the customary night time celebrations. While it was a busy day for everyone, Jayden had taken on some extra responsibilities in his role as Vice-President of the Grad Planning Committee, well done Jayden.
Not everyone was busy in the fields or with family events as the presence of recreational vehicles on the roads and in the campgrounds gave evidence that the tourist season has begun. Along with the hum of the bees and mosquitos was the buzzing of motorcycles, another sign of the approaching summer.
Several Dalum families have children or grandchildren attending Greentree Elementary School in Drumheller and I hear from my daughter-in-law, April Rasmussen, that those who would like to support their playground expansion project may be interested in attending the “Casino Gala” which is scheduled for Saturday evening, May 27, at the Badlands Community Facility. The event will feature casino games, music and dancing, a silent auction and late lunch. For more information you may visit the Friends of Greentree School website at www. greentreeschoolfundraiser.weebly.com.
At the age of 95 Prince Phillip has put in a pretty good shift as “Royal Consort” to Queen Elizabeth II and last week he turned over his royal duties to grandson, Prince Harry. During his long career in public life the elder prince has been the source of numerous comments which revealed his sense of humour, including: “When a man opens a car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife.”
