Mr. Jack Gal­lagher, a long­time res­i­dent of the Drumheller Valley, passed away on May 17, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Jack was born in Drumheller in 1932. He grew up in Rosedale, the mid­dle child of John and Hilda Gal­lagher. He had two sis­ters, Irene and Hilda. Jack left school in grade 11 to work on the rail­way as a te­leg­ra­pher, which he en­joyed for sev­eral years. When he was 21 he went back to school to ob­tain his grade 12, then he at­tended N.A.I.T.’s Chem­i­cal Tech­nol­ogy Pro­gram. He got a job with Atomic Energy in 1959 in Chalk River, On­tario, he worked there for the next two years. He went back to school at the U. of A. to get his Bach­e­lors of Education de­gree. Jack met his wife, Margaret while at AECL and they mar­ried in 1962 and moved to Cal­gary. He com­pleted his B.ED. and worked at Sun­ny­side and Banff Trail Schools. Two of their chil­dren were born there, Rob­bie in 1963 and Chris­tine in 1965. In 1967 the fam­ily moved to Fort McMur­ray, their third daugh­ter, Shel­ley was born there in 1967. The fam­ily then moved down to Drumheller in 1969 where Jack took a job with Cor­rec­tions Canada at the In­sti­tu­tion. Their fourth and last daugh­ter, Jackie was born in 1971. Jack was a truly good man, kind, in­tel­li­gent and a vo­ra­cious reader. He will be missed. He leaves to mourn; his wife Margaret, four daugh­ters; Rob­bie, Chris­tine, Shel­ley, and Jackie, nu­mer­ous grand­chil­dren, nieces, neph­ews and a life­time of friends.
