The Elks annual Memorial Golf Tournament held this past Sunday, May 28 had lower attendance this year due to the late seeding season, but the 27 golfers who came out had a great day with outstanding weather conditions. The course was in excellent shape and after the dust settled John Paul, Andrea Webster, and Kal Kemp took home the honours for this year. Second place one stroke back was the team of Brian Butterfield with Sharon Duncan and Don Ventor. Most honest and not that far distant were Russ McCrindle, Jen Currie and Clark Watts. There were lots of good eats prepared by members and it’s great that Annette and Sharon help us to remember Elmer and Lloyd each year. Several hole prizes were given out and once again Len Currie did a fine job with the prizes and organizing. The Elks hope to see everyone out again next year.

The Big Valley Legion presented the lo- cal awards for their Annual Literary and Poster Contest on Friday, May 19. Black and white poster winners were: Grade 2 - Abraham Clark and Weston Fahey, Grade 3 - Parker VanHaga and Rilynn Stewart, Grade 4 - Leland Dittman and Kingston Brown, Grade 5 - Chase Robinson, Grade 6 - Brady Duncan and Willow Stefanik, Grade 7 - Eric Elines and Tess Thurston, Grade 8 - Chase Skocdopole and Julie Ponto and Grade 9 - Nicole Zoller and Zachary Duncan. The students of Big Valley School were honoured to receive their awards and would like to thank the Legion for their continued support.

Due to overwhelming spring moisture and the preparation of the new outdoor arena, the Big Valley Bust Out Rodeo committee has had to reschedule their annual rodeo for July 28 and 29 in order ensure the ground is properly prepared and provides the safest possible conditions for all of the rodeo athletes, horses and stock.
