For the best beef in town, look no further than the Drumheller and District annual 4-H Show and Sale
This year, the Rumsey/Rowley 4-H beef club will be hosting the Drumheller District annual show and sale on June 5 at the Delia Arena.
The show will kick off with the female class beginning at 9:00 a.m. The district judging competition will start at 11:30 a.m. with the steer class to follow at noon. The district interclub competition will begin roughly around 3:00 p.m. as the top animals enter the ring. First to show is Rumsey then Hesketh then Delia.
The confirmation class judge is Chase Miller, showmanship judge is Ryan Cook, and Grooming judge is Dwayne Martin.
The judging competition judge will be Donalee Ferguson. Ring masters will be Garrett Holowath and Nichole Clayholt, and Tracy Nelson will be the weigh master. Laurie Jaffrey has taken on the photographer position for the event as well.
A supper will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Delia Community Centre that evening to present awards and a job well done for another year. Buyers and award presenters eat free.
The Carlie Bell Memorial Scholarship is presented to an individual or multiple recipients who have sent in a well-thought out application where the Bell family will select the recipient(s). The winner or winners will be announced at the supper along with winners from the show.
Past members who have received this award since 2012 in subsequent order include: Michelle Hoover, Lowell Nelson, Raine McDougald, Terri Huxley, and Levi Reid.
Members and Buyers alike are rounded up and redirected back to the Delia Arena where Rosehill Auction Services will start the sale at 7:00 p.m.
All are welcome to attend and take part in this agriculture based event.
Last years Reserve Champion was Amanda Holowath from the Rumsey-Rowley Beef Club. Her 1,436 pound steer was bought for $3.60 per pound by Hanna Motor Products.
This last year’s Grand Champion was a 1,465 pound steer owned by Kennedy Paget from Hesketh-Orkney. The steer sold to Armand Tesser of Drumheller Chrysler for $3.90/lb.
