The Hus­sar Stitch and Chat ladies would like to thank fam­ily and friends from Rose­bud, Bas­sano, Gem, Cal­gary and Hus­sar who do­nated purses and many ar­ti­cles to put in them. 33 purses were de­liv­ered to the Cri­sis Cen­tre in Strath­more.

The Stan­dard Reds Mos­quito base­ball team has had a great start to their sea­son! They have gone 4-1 in the first half and hope to keep the streak go­ing through the rest of the sea­son. Lo­cal kids on that team are Brody Hale, Car­son Sev­ert­son and Rhett Gre­gory. All three have been hav­ing an awe­some sea­son!

The staff and stu­dents at Wheat­land Cross­ing would like to ex­tend their ap­pre­ci­a­tion to all who do­nated their time, money, and ef­fort to­wards mak­ing our new play­ground a re­al­ity on Day One. It is so nice to have an amaz­ing play area for our stu­dents. Thank you again!

Don’t forget about the Grade 4-6 drama per­for­mance of The Grunch hap­pen­ing at 7 pm on Thursday, June 1 at Wheat­land Cross­ing. Ev­ery­one is wel­come to at­tend this first pro­duc­tion in our new drama fa­cil­ity.

The Grade 6L class from Wheat­land Cross­ing re­cently won a Cheer Team prize pack for par­tic­i­pat­ing in the on-line Canada Games Ac­tiv­ity Chal­lenge. Laura Peake, Ri­ley Arm­strong, and Rori Holm, all mem­bers of this class, can tell you more if you ask them.

We en­joyed see­ing many fa­mil­iar faces at the re­cent open house at Wheat­land Cross­ing School on Thursday May 25. Watch for de­tails about our grand open­ing to be held in Septem­ber.

On Satur­day, May 27, a team of Ju­nior High stu­dents from Wheat­land Cross­ing trav­elled to Cal­gary to par­tic­i­pate in the 2017 Sci­ence Olympics. Lo­cal stu­dents Mor­gan Peake, Grace Gre­gory, and An­thony Chicoine were all mem­bers of this group. The team had a pre-build­ing chal­lenge to con­struct a kite to drop some gummy bears on a des­ig­nated tar­get. With this chal­lenge, the team placed first. Then, on the day, they were pre­sented with three mystery chal­lenges in­volv­ing topo­graph­i­cal map­ping, bridge build­ing, and ero­sion. Thanks to a strong team per­for­mance, the team went home with a sil­ver tro­phy. Con­grat­u­la­tions on mak­ing Wheat­land Cross­ing proud.

Lo­cal Grade 3 boys Grady Sev­ert­son and Everett Thomp­son are play­ing Rookie Base­ball in Stan­dard this year. They are look­ing for­ward to two up­com­ing games in Hus­sar on Mon­day, June 5 and Mon­day, June 12 at 6:15 where they will be play­ing the rookie team from Bas­sano. Come on out to see some kids hav­ing fun learn­ing the game of base­ball.

The Hus­sar 4-H Beef Club held their Show & Sale on Sun­day, May 28. The Mar­ket Steer Show was at 10am and Auction of the Mar­ket Steers at 3pm. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Kayla San­dum for win­ning Over­all Grand Cham­pion with her 1462 lb Charo­lais calf and Brody Hale won Re­serve Cham­pion with his 1342 lb Black An­gus calf. Grand Groom­ing award went to Jour­dyn Sam­mons with Tate Yule as Re­serve. Grand Show­man­ship award went to Jour­dyn Sam­mons with Lan­don Schelske as Re­serve.

The club would like to thank the judges Buck Thomp­sonl (con­for­ma­tion judge), Tyler McMur­ray (groom­ing judge), and Ward Mar­shall (show­man­ship judge). Thanks also to Auc­tion­eer Dar­ren Re­balkin, MC Chelsea Hery­ford, Chute Mar­shall Rus­sell Sev­cik and Ring­men Brady Kaiser & Mack­ayla Kaiser. There were 43 calves in the sale plus the club fundraiser calf. Thank-you to River­side Drug Mart from Drumheller who pur­chased the grand cham­pion calf for $4.50/lb and to Drumheller Chrysler for buy­ing the re­serve cham­pion for $3.50/lb. Big thank-you to River­side Pack­ers from Drumheller for pur­chas­ing the club fundraiser calf for $2.60/lb. The club was very proud to do­nate the pro­ceeds of the fundraiser calf to the Wheat­land Cross­ing School new play­ground equip­ment! The av­er­age sale pur­chase price was $3.11/ lb. Thank-you to Koole Live­stock Haul­ing for haul­ing the calves to JBS Food Canada in Brooks. The Hus­sar 4-H Sale As­so­ci­a­tion wish to thank the buyers and all those help­ing for mak­ing the sale such a suc­cess!

On Mon­day May 22, the Taubert fam­ily in­clud­ing Art & Dianne Taubert trav­elled to McMa­hon Sta­dium to watch their grand­son Liam McDougald (son of Koren & Brad) have the honor of play­ing in the Se­nior Bowl which is the Pro­vin­cial High School Foot­ball All-Star game. It was the south vs. the north and Liam’s team from the south won 29-15.

The U-rine Kid­ney Com­pany will be putting on the Roast Beef Sup­per with all the fix­ings at Hus­sar Sum­mer Daze! It’s June 17 at the Hus­sar Com­mu­nity Hall from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. Any­one is wel­come to at­tend! Hope to see you all there!!!
