The Hussar Stitch and Chat ladies would like to thank family and friends from Rosebud, Bassano, Gem, Calgary and Hussar who donated purses and many articles to put in them. 33 purses were delivered to the Crisis Centre in Strathmore.
The Standard Reds Mosquito baseball team has had a great start to their season! They have gone 4-1 in the first half and hope to keep the streak going through the rest of the season. Local kids on that team are Brody Hale, Carson Severtson and Rhett Gregory. All three have been having an awesome season!
The staff and students at Wheatland Crossing would like to extend their appreciation to all who donated their time, money, and effort towards making our new playground a reality on Day One. It is so nice to have an amazing play area for our students. Thank you again!
Don’t forget about the Grade 4-6 drama performance of The Grunch happening at 7 pm on Thursday, June 1 at Wheatland Crossing. Everyone is welcome to attend this first production in our new drama facility.
The Grade 6L class from Wheatland Crossing recently won a Cheer Team prize pack for participating in the on-line Canada Games Activity Challenge. Laura Peake, Riley Armstrong, and Rori Holm, all members of this class, can tell you more if you ask them.
We enjoyed seeing many familiar faces at the recent open house at Wheatland Crossing School on Thursday May 25. Watch for details about our grand opening to be held in September.
On Saturday, May 27, a team of Junior High students from Wheatland Crossing travelled to Calgary to participate in the 2017 Science Olympics. Local students Morgan Peake, Grace Gregory, and Anthony Chicoine were all members of this group. The team had a pre-building challenge to construct a kite to drop some gummy bears on a designated target. With this challenge, the team placed first. Then, on the day, they were presented with three mystery challenges involving topographical mapping, bridge building, and erosion. Thanks to a strong team performance, the team went home with a silver trophy. Congratulations on making Wheatland Crossing proud.
Local Grade 3 boys Grady Severtson and Everett Thompson are playing Rookie Baseball in Standard this year. They are looking forward to two upcoming games in Hussar on Monday, June 5 and Monday, June 12 at 6:15 where they will be playing the rookie team from Bassano. Come on out to see some kids having fun learning the game of baseball.
The Hussar 4-H Beef Club held their Show & Sale on Sunday, May 28. The Market Steer Show was at 10am and Auction of the Market Steers at 3pm. Congratulations to Kayla Sandum for winning Overall Grand Champion with her 1462 lb Charolais calf and Brody Hale won Reserve Champion with his 1342 lb Black Angus calf. Grand Grooming award went to Jourdyn Sammons with Tate Yule as Reserve. Grand Showmanship award went to Jourdyn Sammons with Landon Schelske as Reserve.
The club would like to thank the judges Buck Thompsonl (conformation judge), Tyler McMurray (grooming judge), and Ward Marshall (showmanship judge). Thanks also to Auctioneer Darren Rebalkin, MC Chelsea Heryford, Chute Marshall Russell Sevcik and Ringmen Brady Kaiser & Mackayla Kaiser. There were 43 calves in the sale plus the club fundraiser calf. Thank-you to Riverside Drug Mart from Drumheller who purchased the grand champion calf for $4.50/lb and to Drumheller Chrysler for buying the reserve champion for $3.50/lb. Big thank-you to Riverside Packers from Drumheller for purchasing the club fundraiser calf for $2.60/lb. The club was very proud to donate the proceeds of the fundraiser calf to the Wheatland Crossing School new playground equipment! The average sale purchase price was $3.11/ lb. Thank-you to Koole Livestock Hauling for hauling the calves to JBS Food Canada in Brooks. The Hussar 4-H Sale Association wish to thank the buyers and all those helping for making the sale such a success!

On Monday May 22, the Taubert family including Art & Dianne Taubert travelled to McMahon Stadium to watch their grandson Liam McDougald (son of Koren & Brad) have the honor of playing in the Senior Bowl which is the Provincial High School Football All-Star game. It was the south vs. the north and Liam’s team from the south won 29-15.
The U-rine Kidney Company will be putting on the Roast Beef Supper with all the fixings at Hussar Summer Daze! It’s June 17 at the Hussar Community Hall from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. Anyone is welcome to attend! Hope to see you all there!!!
