Car­bon School cel­e­brates Canada’s 150th year

Car­bon School fac­ulty and stu­dents marked Canada’s 150th Birth­day with pa­tri­otic cup­cakes and red and white cloth­ing on May 30.

The day sym­bol­ized the 150th day of the 150th year since Canada’s con­fed­er­a­tion back in 1867.

The grade eight foods class pre­pared and dec­o­rated the 150 cup­cakes to rec­og­nize the event. Af­ter­wards, the cup­cakes were shared with the en­tire Car­bon School pop­u­la­tion.

Through­out the day, stu­dents were en­cour­aged to wear red and white to show their pride as well.

The mem­bers of the Big Val­ley 4-H Beef Club had their Show and Sale on May 22 and 23. It was a busy two days and the mem­bers all worked very hard to have their heifers and steers ready for the show. The Big Val­ley Club has 26 mem­bers, the big­gest in the district. On Mon­day for the Fe­male Show they had over 30 an­i­mals there. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Han­nah Elines who won Cham­pion Herd and Trinity Martin, Cham­pion Heifer and 2 Year Old.

On Tues­day the day started at 7:00 a.m. with weigh­ing steers. When the dust had set­tled and the day was done, Trinity Martin won Grand Cham­pion Steer for the whole district. Eric Cole­man was Res. for the Big Val­ley Club.

Other district wide win­ners were Jessie Arm­strong for Sr. Show­man­ship, Levi Martin and Ava Greiner for Jr. Show­man­ship and Groom­ing, Faith Shuck­burgh and Trinity Martin for In­ter­me­di­ate Groom­ing and Show­man­ship and Cole Heck for Sr. Judg­ing. Emily Brown won Rate of Gain in the Big Val­ley Club and the district with an amaz­ing 4.4 pounds per day.

The Big Val­ley 4-H Beef Club would like to thank all the buy­ers and the spon­sors for their con­tin­ued sup­port.

The Friends of the Big Val­ley Li­brary will be host­ing a spe­cial event this month.
