Orkney Oracle

Last Saturday saw a nice crowd out for the Orkney Sports Day. There was a shortage of local players for a ball game so helping out were friends from Drumheller to make up 2 teams. Lots of home runs hit that day, some funny mistakes, and a good time. There were some 50 folks who enjoyed a great supper of assorted salads, hamburgers, hot dogs and lots of choices on the dessert table. It was a good day although the rain after supper cancelled the last ball game. Many thanks to Blaine, Crystal and Derrick as the barbecue chefs and to all others who made the salads and helped with clean-up.

The community’s latest world traveller is Kathy Bell along with her sister-in-law from Calgary. They just recently returned home from a 10 day conducted tour of central Germany doing smaller cities rather than the big ones people usually see. The weather was great and it was a fun time. Glad it was fun for you both. It’s nice to get off the usual touristy tour and see some interesting places not normally on tours.

Thanks again to the folks from Drumheller for helping out. I know some of you have been out other years for sports day. I think I heard that you are from the Nazarene Church. Orkney appreciates your help.

That’s it for this week. It would be nice if the rain held off for a few days with no wind so the farmers can get their spraying done.

Drive carefully and remember that your vehicle has signal lights there for a reason. Use them

Belated Father’s Day greetings to all you dads. I trust someone else did the barbecue work.
