The Hus­sar Mid­gets placed first in the league for the 2017 sea­son go­ing into the year end tour­na­ment hosted by IKBK in Keoma on Fri­day, June 23 and Satur­day, June 24. They were un­suc­cess­ful in mak­ing it into the fi­nal game on Satur­day. The play­ers in­cluded Bai­ley Filko­hazy, Si­mon Hoff, Koal Sam­mons, Eric San­dum, Emma Arm­strong, Cort Arm­strong, Wacy San­dum, Kirk Fraser, Reese Taubert, Lane Adam­cewicz, Lu­cas Trieber, Cordell Sieben, Will Kathol and Pay­den Kaiser. A huge thank you to the coaches Kyle Gor­don and Willy Kirk­patrick, along with the team man­ager, Tammy Hoff, for pro­vid­ing a great sea­son of base­ball for the com­mu­nity!

A beau­ti­ful bridal shower for Teneil Wruck was held on June 24 at Hus­sar Hall. The shower was fol­lowed by a scavenger hunt stagette and party at Shan­non Gor­don’s house.

Sev­eral women from the com­mu­nity gath­ered at Amy Stokes’ house on Sun­day, June 25 for a baby shower for At­ti­cus Stokes, son of Gar­rett and Char­lotte Stokes. The shower was hosted by Amy and good friends April Har­ri­son, Rachel Dun­das and Kim Audet.

Janell Holm and Stacy Scheuer­man com­pleted a 5km Foam Fest on the week­end. Barb Slemko par­tic­i­pated in the TriS­more triathlon on Satur­day, June 24. The foam fest looked a lit­tle messier than the triathlon! It was per­fect weather for the events.

Hus­sar Skat­ing Club is now tak­ing reg­is­tra­tions for the 20172018 skat­ing, hockey, and ringette sea­son. Reg­is­tra­tion forms are avail­able on­line at the Hus­sar Arena web­site and are due by Au­gust 15. The skat­ing club is once again sell­ing com­mu­nity cal­en­dars. If you would like a fam­ily birth­day, an­niver­sary, or me­mo­rial date added to the cal­en­dar, or if you do not usu­ally pur­chase a cal­en­dar but would like to, please con­tact Tara San­dum at 403-787-0009.

The U-rine Kid­ney Com­pany in­vites you and your friends to our 2nd An­nual Kid­ney Chaos Golf Tour­na­ment. The golf tour­na­ment is at the Bas­sano Golf Course on July 7 from 2pm to 8pm. We play a Texas Scram­ble with a shot­gun start. There will be mul­li­gans avail­able for pur­chase (1 per player) that must be used on the course. There are some great prizes to be won! You can en­ter as team or in­di­vid­ual. When golfers are done, they will en­joy a catered prime rib sup­per with all the fix­ings. Friends and fam­ily mem­bers that don’t want to golf, are wel­come to join us for sup­per. Please let Pam Col­lett or any mem­ber of the team know by July 1 if you would like to par­tic­i­pate. Hope to see you com­ing out to have some fun and sup­port our Kid­ney March fundraiser!

Cash Cal­en­dar tick­ets are avail­able from any Curl­ing Club Mem­ber. Draws will be done for the Month of July.

The Hus­sar His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is work­ing hard on the his­tory book and we are now fi­nal­iz­ing story order. We can still can take pic­tures for a lit­tle while longer…if you haven’t got­ten your pic­tures in, please do so soon!

Canada Day is fast ap­proach­ing and our lit­tle town has a lot planned to help cel­e­brate. The day’s fes­tiv­i­ties will be­gin at the rodeo grounds at 1:00. The trip kids will be sell­ing hot dogs and con­ces­sion items through­out the af­ter­noon. The free events pro­vided in­clude: dunk tanks, fire truck dis­plays, wet sponge bat­tles, bouncy cas­tles, show and shine, and many other ac­tiv­i­ties. There will be a free pig roast and turkey sup­per at the hall from 5-7. There will be a tal­ent show held through­out the day for en­ter­tain­ment. Af­ter sup­per, there will be a street dance in front of the hall and raf­fle prizes will be drawn. There are raf­fle tick­ets avail­able for pur­chase from Sandy Vi­cic. The prizes are an afghan, a ukulele, and a duf­fle bag full of good­ies. Fire­works are planned for around 11:00. Be sure to come join in the fun!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to all Hus­sar stu­dents that re­ceived aca­demic, ath­letic and ci­ti­zen­ship awards. There are too many to list here – you know who you are and you make our town proud! The end of school is here and the last day for stu­dents at Wheat­land Cross­ing is Thurs­day, June 29. To wrap up the year, the ele­men­tary stu­dents par­tic­i­pated in a va­ri­ety of field trips. The Grade 1 classes went to the Cal­gary Zoo. The Grade 2 class went to Her­itage Park in Cal­gary. The Grade 3/4 classes teamed up to travel to Pi­o­neer Acres in Ir­ri­cana on Tues­day. Fi­nally, to end off the week, both the Grade 5 and 6 classes will spend Wed­nes­day morn­ing swim­ming at the Bas­sano Pool and then head to Crawl­ing Val­ley for a wiener roast to cel­e­brate the end of the school year. On be­half of all the staff and stu­dents at Wheat­land Cross­ing, we would like to wish all an en­joy­able fun filled sum­mer break. Watch for more school news in late Au­gust for school open­ing dates and ac­tiv­i­ties.
