As many of you know the lo­cal Grads had a cel­e­bra­tion in the Hus­sar Hall June 30. The Grad­u­ates who cel­e­brated were Cort Arm­strong, Kayla San­dum, Wacey San­dum, Sa­man­tha and Abbey Treacy, Kurt Fraser, Paden Kaiser, Ad­di­son Muller, Jaden Nail, Reed Nielsen. Jamie Hob­son and Reed Van Ea­ton were also grad­u­ates this year. Con­grat­u­la­tions and our com­mu­nity is very proud of these young peo­ple.

The Hus­sar 4-H Club also held their awards night on the June 29. A steak sup­per was en­joyed by all.

July 1 saw the 150 Canada Day cel­e­bra­tions in Hus­sar. From car shows, to trac­tor rides for lit­tle peo­ple, dunk tanks, tal­ent show, a street dance (moved to Hall be­cause of the rain) and a tal­ent show. We have some very hard work­ing vol­un­teers in our com­mu­nity and I just want to give them a pat on the back and a big thank you for putting this all to­gether. It was a great event.

A shower for bride elect Te­nile Wruck (Mikeal Schemp) was held at the Hus­sar Hall on June 24, the wed­ding is Au­gust 5 in Ab­berdean, Saskatchewan. Con­grat­u­la­tions and best wishes.

Hus­sar Adult Slow Pitch Base­ball team were in Bas­sano on July 8 for the year end tour­na­ment. Ev­ery­one had a great time and en­joyed some boat­ing at Crawl­ing Val­ley.

The 2017 Kid­ney March Team Urine Kid­ney Com­pany held their 2nd an­nual fundraiser golf tour­na­ment on July 7 at Bas­sano. It was a great suc­cess and very hot.

Con­grat­u­la­tions from Hus­sar area friends and neigh­bours to Dy­lan and Yolanda Dou­glass who were mar­ried at Stu­art and Kim Dou­glass’s farm on July 8 near Bas­sano.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Brad and Beth Dun­das on their mar­riage also on July 8 in Hus­sar. The cou­ple held their re­cep­tion and dance in the Hus­sar hall where they had the Larry Van­natta Band play for the dance. Thank good­ness the hall had air con­di­tion­ing as the heat was at times un­bear­able. Many out of town guests at­tended as far away as Shawville, Que­bec, La­combe, Carstairs, Cal­gary and Cam­rose. Lo­rilee and Wade had lunch the next day at their home in Hus­sar for their fam­ily from out of town and the bridal party. Thanks to the many friends and fam­ily for help­ing out with Brad and Beth’s spe­cial day.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Wendy and Randy Kaiser and fam­ily as they were nom­i­nated for the BMO 2017 Farm Fam­ily Award for Wheat­land County. On July 10 they were treated to brunch with the award cer­e­mony. They were also given Stam­pede tick­ets for the af­ter­noon per­for­mance. Ben and Terry Arm­stong were also in­cluded with the Kais­ers as our County reps.

From July 13 to Au­gust 24 the Sum­mer Read­ing Pro­gram is run­ning in Hus­sar. The co­or­di­na­tor is Bri­anna Moss from Bas­sano, with helpers Larissa Heib­ert and Emma Arm­strong. A fu­neral for Ella Hein was held at the Hus­sar Hall on July 10. A huge crowd at­tended with many fam­ily mem­bers. In­ter­ment was held later on that day in Bas­sano. Be­fore Ella and Ge­orge re­tired to Drumheller they lived just east of Hus­sar on Duck Lake Road. They al­ways had time for a visit and made you feel very wel­come. They will be fondly missed in this com­mu­nity.

Tues­day, July 11 saw the skies open up and rain on Hus­sar, I hear any­where from one inch to two inches in this area. The crops were re­ally need­ing this mois­ture.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Barb Slemko who com­peted in the St. Al­bert marathon on Satur­day, July 15. The race was al­most can­celled due to a heat ad­vi­sory that day. Thank­fully, the 42.2 km race went ahead de­spite the heat. Barb was thrilled to be the third place fe­male fin­isher in the race. Awe­some job Barb, the heat couldn’t have made it easy.

On July 16 Wade and Lo­rilee Dun­das vol­un­teered for the Al­berta Beef Pro­duc­ers venue at the Cal­gary Stam­pede. It’s al­ways in­ter­est­ing talk­ing to so many dif­fer­ent peo­ple from all over the world. On the way home Wade and Lo­rilee picked up their two grand­daugh­ters (Pay­ton and Madi Shu­man) who are stay­ing with them for a hol­i­day.
