Rumsey & District Register
With the dry conditions we have been experiencing for the past three months, the threat of fire is very real for everyone. Ron and Leone Kiemele had to act fast when a fire started in their baler in the field west of the home place on September 3. They would like to send out a big thank you to their family, the local fire department, friends and neighbours near and far and members of the Hutterite colony that came to put out the fire that threatened to spread quickly if it wasn’t for the actions of these volunteers. We live in a great community.
It is with great sadness that I pass onto you the news of Eric Primrose’s passing on Friday, September 8. There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 15 at the Rumsey Cemetery starting at 2:00 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship to follow in the Rumsey Community Hall. He was born on October 3, 1926, the seventh child of Marion and Gordon Primrose. He went to school at the Price school then later Scollard school when the family moved to farm there. He enjoyed working on the farm and participating in curling, baseball and 4-H. He met Jean at his brother Mel’s wedding and Jean married the “Best Man” on November 10, 1956. After their wedding, they lived on the Thompson place for four years, then lived for a year on the Russell place near Rumsey before purchasing the Baron place in 1960 and moved to it in the spring of 1961. In the spring of 1964, they moved to the Haishie Wolfson farm and farmed there until 1971. During the year of 1970, they began building a new house on the Baron place and were happy to move in on the first day of spring, March 21, 1971. They were blessed with three children; Robbie, born in 1957, later went to work in Camrose and married Mary Pidkowa. They have two married children, Matthew ( Jessica) and Ashley (Keith) and two grandchildren; Jake and Hunter. Tim, born in 1959, stayed to farm with Eric on the family farm and married his sweetheart, Betty Hodge. They have three girls, Julie, Katie and Shelby. Teresa was born in 1963, married Kevin Smith from Champion in 1991 where they presently live with their three children, Drew, Hailey and Jay. Eric and Jean were always known to have the coffee on and something baking for the neighbours as they could always stop in for a visit. Eric loved his farm and the rewards it gave to his family. He will be missed by many.
As the hot days continue, the harvesting continues at a fast pace so beware of slow moving and very large vehicles travelling down the road; everyone be safe this week.
Have a great week, everyone.
