Hand Hills Grapevine
Hello Hand Hills….we are still struggling with this hot dry weather here in the Hills. Two fires in two weeks takes the fun out of doing anything. Please be careful out there. Hunters please be extra cautious when driving around. Your mufflers and cigarettes have potential to be the cause of the next fire in the Hills. Horses that are being used regularly are having their shoes removed as they can spark a fire as well. Everyone is on high alert. WE NEED A RAIN! At this point we would even take the white stuff.
The Zipper Family, Dean and Melvin Raugust Family and Keith and Casey Griffith Family were the latest to experience fires. One was started by a rock in a swather and the other by a downed power line.
The lost of an old Heemskert homestead was a sad sight to see.
Response to these two fires was exceptional. If you know a volunteer firefighters. Please shake their hand, give them a huge hug and thank them for their unselfish work.
It was because of all the firefighters, the Hutterite Colonies and the community at large that our community averted a much worse outcome.
And they are off to Kindergarten! Edith Hamelin, who is the bus driver that drives thru the Hills on her route to Delia School, phoned me and told me that this year she has 14 students on her bus and three are Kindergarten Children.
Her first pick up is at the Sunterra Barns, on the Fish Lake Road and there she picks up Ally Mabbott and Sammy Hernandez. Rowan Hardy is her other first year student. Have fun little ones! Edith has been driving in the Hills for 3 years and just loves her job!
Larry Rosin, who has been driving for many, many years, has two Kindergar- ten Children on his route. Mariri Rosin and Gavin Doyle. One is Larry’s Granddaughter and the other is Grant Ernst’s Grandson.
I might as well Congratulate Great Grandparents, Fred and Edna Preston as well. Hello Fred and Edna! I wonder how many children/ grandchildren/great grandchildren those two have seen off to school?
The Donna Griffith Memorial Family Rodeo is this Saturday at the Hand Hills. Come watch the events, the booth will be open and it is sure to be a fun filled day. This is such a fitting way to remember Donna.
Bob and Pinky Tabor hosted a reunion of the Big Six at their place on the weekend of August 26. This group of six Olds College Graduates has been getting together every year for the last 53 years. Talking of old times, making new memories and just taking the time to carry on this tradition is such a great story. The group went to Rosebud Theatre but mostly just spent time together.
I got to finally meet him! Dax Kreiser is the ten month old baby boy of Scott and Courtney and they live on what many would remember as the Jack and Irene Albright Home place, Scott is the son of Lorri DuffieldPahl and her and Dean Raugust are the proud grand- parents of Dax.
This is long overdue but Congratulations and welcome to the Hills Scott, Courtney and Dax.
There have moved in!! Cody and Terri Quaschnick and their three children have moved a house into the yard of Cody’s Parents, Marvin and Dianne. How special is that to have a son return to the Ranch with a wife and three grandchildren. Life doesn’t get any better than that right Grandma Dianne?
Till next week…I feel that I am forgetting to report something but I will get it next time, if I remember it!
