Ready to get back to your needle­work, crafts, or colour­ing hob­bies? UFOs (Un­fin­ished Ob­jects) is at the Rock­y­ford Li­brary, Tues­days, 1:00 to 2:30. Bring your sup­plies and en­joy some fun com­pany. Share your knowl­edge or learn new skills.

The older kids are back in school, and it’s Tod­dlin’ Time for the younger set (ages 0-5) and their care­givers. Drop by the li­brary be­tween 1:00 and 2:30. Give your­self and your lit­tle one some so­cial time! Strath­more Par­ent Link is com­ing to the Rock­y­ford Li­brary for six con­sec­u­tive weeks, be­gin­ning Oc­to­ber 6. Stay tuned for more in­for­ma­tion. Dur­ing that six weeks, Tod­dlin’ Time will move to that Fri­day time slot; but re­mem­ber that any time the li­brary is open, you are wel­come to visit.

Yo ho ho, and a bot­tle of rum! It’s In­ter­na­tional Pi­rates’ Day on Tues­day, Septem­ber 19. Learn the myths and facts about some fa­mous pi­rates of old at Rock­y­ford Li­brary free video-con­fer­ence, Pi­rates!, at 7:00 on that day. Bring your peg leg, eye patch, and land­lub­ber ac­quain­tances, but please leave your cut­lass at home.

Think it might be fun to learn some pi­rate-speak in the mean­time? Use your li­brary card to cre­ate an ac­count at Mango Lan­guage and be­gin right away, or choose an­other lan­guage that you would like to ex­plore. Mango Lan­guages is just one of the many e-re­sources avail­able to you at no ad­di­tional charge when you pur­chase a li­brary card.

If you en­joy read­ing and would like to check out some books that you may not have other­wise read, join the Speak­ing Vol­umes (Adult) Book Club. The group meets ev­ery third Wed­nes­day, from 7:00 p.m. un­til 9:00 p.m., from Septem­ber through June at the li­brary. The next meet­ing is Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 20, at which time the group will dis­cuss The In­ven­tion of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. Drop in to check it out.
