Drumheller Dragons open season Friday at home
The Dragons showed continuous improvement as they battled their way through the preseason, and are now set for their home opener this Friday. The Dragons hosted the Olds Grizzly son Wednesday, September 6, and won 5-3 pushing their preseason record to 4-0 and out scoring their opponents 25-15.
On Friday night, September 8, they hosted the Brooks Bandits and then travelled to Brooks on Sunday for amati nee game. These games were a lot closer as the Dragons won Friday 3-2, but f ell 5-4 in overtime Sunday.
They ended the preseason 5-1. Coach Kevin Has se lberg say she like the p rog- ress the team has made.
“You have to learn to be a good team in all sit uations, and this last game in Brooks was a sit uation t hat s erved our t eam ver y we ll and we are e xtremely ha ppy w ith the results moving forward even t hough we didn ’t end up on t he r ight side of t he score sheet.
We le arned a lot a bout each ot her and s omething to build on mov ing f orward,” said Hasselberg.
Drumheller has a long history w ith th e B rooks B andits, and t his g ame s erved as a st arting p oint f or t he team in its progression.
“We f eel t hat an y of our players c an c ompete w ith anybody now, and it is just about ge tting b etter e very single day,” said Hasselberg. “That is our goal and that is what we w ant t o do, and I know the players are building for that as well and e xcited to be a part of that.”
The Dragons officially open the regular season this Friday a t home versus t he Camrose Kodiaks. For Hasselberg, he w ants his t eam to focus on the basics.
“The g ame is s o sim ple, we just ha ve t o mak e sur e we are playing hard consistently over t he full 60 minutes of t he g ame, and we are playing on the right side of the puck,” he said. The se are two t hings we ar e r eally focused on r ight now. I know the players are going to wor k har d t his we ek in practice and t he c oaching staff is going t o be working just a s hard. Our goal is t o be better than our last game and I k now our g uys ar e ready to do that.”
Brady Risk has a chance last Wednesday versus the Olds Grizzlys. The Dragons finished the preseason with a 5-1 record and open the regular season this Friday versus the Camrose Kodiaks.
