It has been 37 years since Terry Fox be­gan his Marathon of Hope, but his mem­ory is alive as stu­dents in the area and across Canada take on the Terry Fox School Run.

The Terry Fox School Run is on Thursday, Septem­ber 28. This event raises aware­ness and each year thou­sands of dol­lars are raised for a cure to can­cer,

At Green­tree School, the stu­dents will be par­tic­i­pat­ing. Af­ter a short warm-up, stu­dents will set out on the walk -run. They are host- ing “Toonies for Terry” and are en­cour­ag­ing stu­dents to bring a toonie to school to do­nate it to end can­cer. They have set a goal of $2,000.

DVSS is also in the Terry Fox School Run spirit. They will be hold­ing their event on Fri­day, Septem­ber 29. There will be an assem­bly fol­lowed by the walk and then a bar­be­cue.

Al­ready the stu­dents have been work­ing to­ward their fundrais­ing goal. On Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 20, they held their third an­nual Terry Fox Cake Auc­tion. The bid­ding was fierce as they raised $2,259.

They are planning more events this week to con­tinue to raise funds.

St. An­thony’s School has al­ways been a great sup­porter of the Terry Fox School Run, and con­sis­tently ranked as one of the top schools in the Al­berta, Nu­navut, and NWT. Stu­dents have been sent home with pledge sheets and are gar­ner­ing sup­port. This year they have set a lofty goal of rais­ing $7,500.

The day be­gins with an assem­bly at 10 a.m., on Thursday, Septem­ber 28. At 10:15, the stu­dents head out onto the course. The to­tal route is ap­prox­i­mately 3 kilo­me­ters.
