Helen passed away on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 21, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Helen’s fi­nal days were spent at the Drumheller Hos­pi­tal in Pal­lia­tive Care with her chil­dren at her side. Helen was born on the farm in Carmel, SK, where she at­tended Mt. Carmel school and later, Sa­cred Heart Academy in York­ton. She com­peted in many sports, but her fa­vorite sport, in which she ex­celled, was fast­ball. Helen was de­voted to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Her fa­ther, John Bunko, had do­nated a por­tion of land to the church which is still used by St. Peter’s Abbey for pil­grim­age ev­ery year. Helen’s fam­ily was most im­por­tant to her, she was a stay at home mom un­til her chil­dren were in school, then went to work at the Cal­gary Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal. In 1975, Helen moved from Cal­gary to Drumheller where she man­aged a mo­tel for 20 years. Helen will be lov­ingly missed by her daugh­ter, Grace; sons, Jim, Garry ( Twila) and Terry; grand­chil­dren, Diana (Dan) and Brett, Trent and Tris­tan ( Tallen); great grand­chil­dren, Taya and Kane; sis­tersin-law, Myrna, Marie, Dar­lene and El­iz­a­beth; and many nieces and neph­ews. She is pre­de­ceased by her par­ents, John and Alice Bunko; hus­band, John; sis­ters, Anne (Harry), Katie (Nick) and Net­tie (Nick); broth­ers, Matt, Bill (Dor­thy), Ro­man, Tony (Mackie), Nick and Mike. The fam­ily would like to thank Dr. Olfert & Barb Trumpour, Dr. Beach, Dr. Diaz, Inez (her An­gel) and the rest of the nurs­ing staff who cared for our mom. A Fu­neral Mass was held at St. An­thony’s Church, 151 – 3 Street W., Drumheller, AB on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 27, 2017 at 11:00 am. A Pri­vate In­ter­ment will be held at Sa­cred Heart Colum­bar­ium in Cal­gary, AB. Mes­sages of con­do­lence may be left for the fam­ily at www.myal­ter­na­tives.ca.
