Actor returns to valley for A Christmas Carol

A former resident who went onto a c areer in ac ting and producing has teamed up with Kaleidoscope Theatre to bring some Christmas cheer.
“The Mail” reported on Der- ek Losoncy’s most recent project, The Re venge of W illiam Turney, in t he S eptember 20 edition of The Mail. He will be back in the valley on Saturday as a part of a Re ader’s Theatre production of A Chr istmas Carol.
“Originally when Dickens wrote A Chr istmas C arol, I t was written in prose, so it was meant t o b e r ead out loud, so we ar e s ort of just t aking it b ack t o t he or iginal ide a,” Losoncy told The Mail.
He is performing with Cameron Gordon, who used to run a theatre company in Kelowna, who was also involved in The Revenge of William Turney.
He w ill b e pla ying S crooge, and L osoncy and ac tor S arah Haggerman ar e shar ing t he narrative, and als o pla ying all of the other characters.
“It is a quick r ide, about an hour and a half, but it is lot s of fun and great for the whole family, and t hat is one of t he reasons I jum ped in, m y k ids have ne ver r eally s een me in anything,” said Losoncy.
It is s ort of a home coming for L osoncy, howe ver, he ha s never been on the current Kaleidoscope Theatrew stage. “F rom my perspective, this is where I st arted, where I got the passion to do this. To bring this home and in f ront of a home crowd,” he said. “When I came down 20 ye ars ago, t o do Tony and T ina’s Wedding, that was a fundraiser to get the capital t o fini sh t he theatre. I adjudicated there a f ew time s but I have never performed in that space.”
They are also taking the production t o N akusp and C algary before Christmas.
