Ac­tor returns to val­ley for A Christmas Carol

A for­mer res­i­dent who went onto a c areer in ac ting and pro­duc­ing has teamed up with Kalei­do­scope Theatre to bring some Christmas cheer.

“The Mail” re­ported on Der- ek Losoncy’s most re­cent project, The Re venge of W il­liam Tur­ney, in t he S eptem­ber 20 edi­tion of The Mail. He will be back in the val­ley on Satur­day as a part of a Re ader’s Theatre pro­duc­tion of A Chr ist­mas Carol.

“Orig­i­nally when Dick­ens wrote A Chr ist­mas C arol, I t was writ­ten in prose, so it was meant t o b e r ead out loud, so we ar e s ort of just t ak­ing it b ack t o t he or ig­i­nal ide a,” Losoncy told The Mail.

He is per­form­ing with Cameron Gor­don, who used to run a theatre com­pany in Kelowna, who was also involved in The Re­venge of Wil­liam Tur­ney.

He w ill b e pla ying S crooge, and L os­oncy and ac tor S arah Hag­ger­man ar e shar ing t he nar­ra­tive, and als o pla ying all of the other char­ac­ters.

“It is a quick r ide, about an hour and a half, but it is lot s of fun and great for the whole fam­ily, and t hat is one of t he rea­sons I jum ped in, m y k ids have ne ver r eally s een me in any­thing,” said Losoncy.

It is s ort of a home com­ing for L os­oncy, howe ver, he ha s never been on the cur­rent Kalei­do­scope Theatrew stage. “F rom my per­spec­tive, this is where I st arted, where I got the pas­sion to do this. To bring this home and in f ront of a home crowd,” he said. “When I came down 20 ye ars ago, t o do Tony and T ina’s Wed­ding, that was a fundraiser to get the cap­i­tal t o fini sh t he theatre. I ad­ju­di­cated there a f ew time s but I have never per­formed in that space.”

They are also tak­ing the pro­duc­tion t o N akusp and C al­gary be­fore Christmas.
