I would like to send out a big thank you to all the supporters of this years’ Spring Fling supper and dessert auction. It was a huge success with 26 beautiful live auction items that ranged from an impressive multi-layered Canadian pride confectionery creation; pies of many flavours - Saskatoon, flapper, cherry, lemon meringue; cream cheese, whipped cream, candy covered cakes; old family recipes of cookies, muffins, loaves of bread and doughnuts that our bidders knew would be delicious and worth that high bid; and, of course, chocolate, chocolate and chocolate delights. There was something for everyone and it sure reflected in the bidding as the items averaged $650.00. The silent auction items also generated a good deal of fun revelry between friends and neighbours. Thanks again to our auctioneer and his crew, Travis Caweizel and his dad, Craig, and sister, Brittany, as they worked hard to grab those bids from the crowd and get the donations flowing for the Rumsey Ag Society. They sure generated a lot of laughter along the way as well. In total, our community generously raised $17,598.00 toward the upkeep and general revenues of the Rumsey Ag Society as we continue on for another year of fun activities.
On Thursday, April 26, our local 4-H youth will be out and about collecting bottles and batteries for their annual recycling fundraiser. If you haven’t been called or you find that your recyclables are still under snow, they will be willing to come by after this date to collect, just give Jill and Kent Holowath a call at 403-368-3733. They will also be having their Mock Achievement field day at the Rumsey Ag Grounds on Sunday, April 29 where they bring in their calves and give them that final training to prepare them for the show ring on June 4. Feel free to come to Rumsey on Sunday and watch our youth in action as they work with their calves and learn new things.
Linda Helmer stopped in to let me know about the St. Mary’s Lodge birthday party from April. Donna Sengaus was the hostess with three birthdays to celebrate. In Extended care, Christel Jacob and Mabel Baker. In the Lodge, Leo Knievel was the only celebrant. In May, the birthday party will be moved to Tuesday, May 22, because of the long weekend. Pat Hatt will be the hostess. If you would like to join in on the fun, contact Linda Helmer as they are always looking for new volunteers.
