Mother’s Day is this Sunday so I hope you are thinking good thoughts of your mom all this week, heck, you should have loving thoughts all year long! The Rumsey Firemen will be preparing their annual delicious breakfast on Sunday, May 13, for all Moms in the area along with their families so plan to head in to Rumsey. The breakfast will be served between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. so don’t be late.

The Rumsey Historical Society had a meeting last week and they have decided to go ahead with plans to celebrate Rumsey’s Centennial next year, 2019, on the weekend of July 13 and 14. The Rumsey Centennial committee will meet on June 13, 2018, 7:30 p.m. at the hall, to create some preliminary plans for this big event. If you are willing to help out, they will happily welcome any extra hands. One thing for sure, there will be a parade so if you want to put in an entry you can contact Dariel McNaughton. All ideas are welcome.

The Rumsey Connection Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, June 21. This has been a fun event to join in on for many years now and with new organizers it is sure to continue. Please contact Danna Nelson at 403-321-0195 or Mitch Herd at 403-8205346 to enter. Enter early so you are certain to secure a spot. The entry fee includes 9 holes of golf, cart, supper and prizes. Shot gun start at 5:00 p.m.

As the ground warms up and everyone starts planning their garden and flower beds, the Red Deer River Garden Club would love all the young ones in our com- munity to consider planting a Junior Garden plot. The maximum size of the plot is 12 feet by 12 feet, there is a list on Rumsey’s community events page on Facebook with the list of required vegetables and flowers but the rest is up to your imagination. If you are interested in joining in the fun please register with Mary Newton at 403-368-2121 and she can fill you in on all the details. The Garden Show is on Wednesday, August 29. The plots will be judged during the week prior to the show.

Also, keep in mind as you are taking your summer pictures, that the Rumsey Library will be holding our Community Calendar photo contest at the Garden Show again this year. Categories are each month of the year plus the cover page, each picture must be developed into a 5”X7” size, taken within the last 3 years and from the local area. You can bring your pictures to me any time of the year and I will make sure they are on display at the show if you are unable to attend. I would love to see more entries this year. Giggle of the day:

One of the youth league soccer coaches didn’t care much for my refereeing and had no problem letting me know it. Fed up, I threatened him with a penalty if he didn’t can it. He calmed down, but an older woman took up where he left off.

“You’d better control your sideline.” I warned the coach.

The coach turned to the woman and barked, “Knock it off, Mom!”

Have a great week.
