Airplane aids in investigation of stolen vehicles
Drumheller RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, are investigating reports of multiple stolen vehicles on Tuesday, October 23 with officers at one point aided by a citizen in an airplane. RCMP from Airdrie and Drumheller were tracking individuals thought to be related to cases of stolen vehicles originating from at least one vehicle theft from a farm, and RCMP told the Mail as of 3 p.m. Tuesday it’s believed they found at least one suspect in Cambria.
A civilian pilot in an airplane happened to see the incident unfold- ing and RCMP members communicated with the pilot via phone, watching the suspected stolen vehicles from a safe distance, RCMP say.
The search moved in and out of the Drumheller RCMPs jurisdiction, crossing over into the Bassano jurisdiction, before returning to Cambria where police believed to have cornered a suspect.
A number of vehicles were potentially stolen and RCMP did not want to release vehicle descriptions as their investigation is still ongoing.
