Cham­pi­ons head­ing to Blue Moun­tain

THE BLUE MOUN­TAINS — More than 5,000 ath­letes from 65 coun­tries are ex­pected to ar­rive at Blue Moun­tain Re­sort this week­end for a worldly com­pe­ti­tion.

Meaford’s 365 Sports is host­ing the Ob­sta­cle Course Rac­ing World Cham­pi­onships ( ORCW) at the re­sort for the sec­ond year.

OCRW is a chal­leng­ing ob­sta­cle course pit­ting run­ners against ei­ther a three or 15- km course through the es­carp­ment, over walls and around cargo net­ting in the timed event.

Off the track a com­mon theme is fundrais­ing, with many races ben­e­fit­ing char­ity part­ners. The OCR World Cham­pi­onships ben­e­fits Make- A- Wish Canada, the of­fi­cial char­ity part­ner of the 2017 event.

The event will fea­ture a $ 250 par­tic­i­pa­tion fee and is open to all race di­rec­tors, com­pany ex­ec­u­tives, and pro­fes­sion­als. The event is ex­pected to garner thou­sands of dol­lars in sup­port of the mis­sion.

This year, Make- A- Wish am­bas­sador Misty Diaz, who has born with the more se­ri­ous form of Spina Bi­fida in 1984, will be par­tic­i­pat­ing the Sun­day’s open and will be ad­dress­ing the ath­letes Fri­day at the open­ing gala.

The event runs from Fri­day to Sun­day with a full slate of ac­tiv­i­ties for both ath­letes and vis­i­tors.

Next year the event moves to Aus­tralia.
