Workshop for men at Take Back the Night
Men are being invited to participate in a special workshop that will be part of the annual Take Back the Night march on Sept. 21 to raise awareness about violence against women and children. The march through downtown Brantford is hosted by the Sexual Assault Centre of Brant, which has been involved in the event for 26 years. Women, children, transgender and “non-binary folks” are invited to march starting at the Laurier courtyard at 73 George St. and ending there. Men can participate in a workshop and discussion. The event, which will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include speakers, live music and children’s activities. The sexual assault centre notes that one in three women and one in six men will experience some form of sexual abuse in their lifetimes. The centre provides services that promote healing for survivors of sexual violence and works to create social change through advocacy, education and collaboration. It supports survivors of sexual violence with a 24-hour crisis and support line, counselling, advocacy and community events. The centre offers counselling for women aged 14 and older and works in all Brant County high schools and through emergency services, hospitals, court proceedings and community events.
