Deadline extended for BCHS committee

The Expositor (Brantford) - - NEWS - EXPOSITOR STAFF

The Brant Community Healthcare System is extending the deadline to submit applications to the new 12-member community engagement committee.

The new deadline is Nov. 30. The old deadline was Nov. 17.

“While we already have some excellent applicants, we do want to ensure that as many people as possible have time to consider this important volunteer commitment,” said BCHS supervisor Bonnie Adamson.

Adamson said that the City of Brantford and Brant County each will appoint a representative to the committee around the end of November. “So, it makes sense to extend the deadline for other applicants as well,” she said.

The BCHS volunteer association and foundation boards also will each appoint a member to the committee, while Adamson will appoint eight public members after the application and interview process.

Members will be appointed for at least a one-year term and the committee’s mandate will be re-examined once a new hospital board and permanent CEO are in place, which likely will be in 2018.

This committee will assist Adamson and interim CEO Dr. Glenn Bartlett to understand health service needs of the communities served by BCHS, which operates Brantford General Hospital and the Willett urgent care centre in Paris.

Adamson said the committee will advise on strategies to engage community leaders and groups and provide perspectives on current and new issues affecting the system, among other things.

Community engagement committee members must be able to attend up to six meetings within a 12-month period.

Applicants must be at least 18, live in Brantford or Brant County, have a sound knowledge of their community and a strong interest in health care. Current or former employees of the health system or its foundation and current or former members of the system’s professional staff and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply. Neither is anyone who works, or has worked, in health care elsewhere.

To apply send a letter describing why you want to be a committee member and your employment history to Adamson by email at communications@bch or by regular mail to 200 Terrace Hill St., Brantford, N3R 1G9.

All applications will be acknowledged.
