On Au­gust 26. The vil­lage of rock­port went all out to cel­e­brate Canada 150 with its Rock­port River Her­itage Salute.

Held at the Rock­port Re­cre­ation Hall, a for­mer vil­lage school­house at 115 Es­cott-Rock­port Road, it cel­e­brated not only the his­tory of Rock­port, but of Canada it­self. The hall is a two-storey red brick build­ing that was erected in 1925 and used as a school for 40 years be­fore be­ing trans­ferred to the Rock­port Se­nior Cit­i­zens in 1966 to be­come a re­cre­ation fa­cil­ity.

Through many hours of vol­un­teer time, as well as grants and fundrais­ers, the hall has be­come a cen­tral lo­ca­tion for a wide va­ri­ety events in the vil­lage.

Dur­ing the Canada 150 fes­tiv­i­ties, the Vil­lage held a spe­cial fash­ion show high­light­ing the amaz­ing cloth­ing worn in the area since Con­fed­er­a­tion.

They also ded­i­cated a bell to the fa­cil­ity to be hung on the new pavil­ion. Dated from 1850, it orig­i­nally graced an old steam lo­co­mo­tive, but now rep­re­sents the school bells that called more than one stu­dent in to be­gin learn­ing ev­ery day.
