A ‘Comedy of Errors’ at playhouse
Celebrating 35th anniversary
It’s amazing how fast they grow up.
Back in 1982, the baby Thousand Islands Play house opened its doors for the very first time, filled with hopes and dreams but never knowing where the future might lead.
Their very first season was small but ambitious, with productions of “A Comedy of Errors” by William Shakespeare, “On Golden Pond” by Ernest Thompson, and “The Beggars Opera” by John Gay.
Since then they have gone on to produce hundreds of plays, focusing mainly on Canadian playwrights and players, and are preparing to dazzle and enchant their audiences well into the future.
Now 35 years old, they are getting ready to pull out all the stops and party as only they know how.
“To celebrate the Playhouse’s 35th anniversary, we have teamed up with the Boat Line to launch a fund to support arts opportunities for Gananoque youth,” said Brett Christopher, general manager of the TI Playhouse. “We are committing every dollar raised from the event to seed this fund and launch it in the new year. Local youth who are struggling to rent space for the presentation of their work, or need some financial assistance for educational opportunities, and many more will be able to apply and receive support for their ideas.”
The event will be lavish and wonderfully done. Taking place on Friday September 8th, it will include a 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm cruise down the St. Lawrence River on the Gananoque Boat Line featuring food, drink, and live entertainment by Alison MacDonald (known for her roles in Patsy Cline and Leading Ladies). At 7: 00, Clark Bus Lines will chauffeur guests to the Playhouse for a performance of The Comedy of Errors, attribute to that opening season.
“Come help us launch the newly-minted GBL Founders Fund in honour of the ongoing TIP/GBL partnership and the support that the Gananoque Boat Line and its owners have given to the Playhouse over our 35 years on the St. Lawrence,” said Christopher.
Cost for the event is $75 per person, with tickets available at the Playhouse Box Office at 613-382-7020.
Seen here in rehearsal, Dromio of Syracuse (Arnand Rajaram) and Antipholous of Syracuse (Craig Lauzon) are ready to lead the cast of ‘The Comedy of Errors’ in bringing this raucous comedy to life for all who attend the 35th anniversary grand celebrations on September 8.
