Gior­gio Mag­na­nensi, com­poser, con­duc­tor, teacher, and artis­tic direc­tor of the Van­cou­ver New Mu­sic So­ci­ety, is one of the jus­tan­nounced re­cip­i­ents of this year’s Mayor’s Arts Awards. As part of the prize, win­ners in a plethora of cre­ative fields name an emerg­ing artist to share the hon­ours. Mag­na­nensi (shown here; Chris Ran­dle photo), who took the award for mu­sic, has named com­poser Ste­fan Maier. Win­ner Artemis Gor­don, of Arts Um­brella, chose Bal­let BC’S Livona El­lis for dance; Ne­world Theatre’s Mar­cus Youssef named Conor Wylie for theatre; Bren­dan Lee Satish Tang se­lected Shaun Peter Mal­longa for craft and de­sign; Judy Radul chose Ju­lian Hou in vis­ual arts; Peg Campbell nom­i­nated Anaïsa Visser for film and new me­dia; Bryan New­son named the cre­ative duo of He­len Reed and Han­nah Jick­ling for pub­lic art; Joanne Arnott gave the nod to Wil Ge­orge for lit­er­ary arts; and Mary Mackay se­lected Leah Pat­i­tucci for culi­nary arts. Choo Chiat Goh of the Goh Bal­let Academy has won the life­time achieve­ment award. For the full list, see van­cou­­sawards/.
