The Glengarry County Archives, located in the northern section of Glengarry District High School in Alexandria, is the largest repository of historical records in eastern Ontario and contains the foremost collection of history about Glengarry County found anywhere.
The Glengarry Pioneer Museum, in Dunvegan, is true to its name, enabling visitors to travel back to the pioneer era, and to get a blast from War of 1812 re-enactments.
The township boasts a wide range of recreational facilities, such as golf courses, the Tim Hortons Dome in Alexandria, arenas in Maxville and Alexandria, a skateboard park and fourseason networks of hiking and cross-country ski trails.
Island Park in Alexandria is a great place to relax. Take a dip in Mill Pond, stroll along the pathway, watch the resident flock of Canada geese, have a picnic. Children can cool off in the splash park.
The area is beginning to become something of a foodie destination with the addition of new specialty restaurants in recent years to complement well-established eateries that serve up diverse menus.
At farmers’ markets, consumers can make a connection with producers. The experience will stimulate the locavore in you. Meet the people who put baked goods, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and bread on your table.
