Once a year, North Glen­garry hosts a day when res­i­dents can safely dis­pose of their house­hold haz­ardous waste.

The 2015 drop-off day will be held April 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the R.A.R.E. Plant, 265 In­dus­trial Blvd., Alexandria.

House­hold haz­ardous waste in­cludes pes­ti­cides, med­i­ca­tion and sy­ringes, an­tifreeze and its con­tain­ers, propane cylin­ders, clean­ing flu­ids, propane tanks, bat­ter­ies, oven and drain clean­ers, flu­o­res­cent lights, fire ex­tin­guish­ers, lawn fer­til­iz­ers, paints, sol­vents and oil.

Waste elec­tri­cal and elec­tronic equip­ment (WEEE) is another large com­po­nent in the re­cy­clable waste stream. WEEE can be reused, re­fur­bished and re­cy­cled. In North Glen­garry, un­wanted elec­tronic and elec­tri­cal equip­ment can be dropped off at the RARE plant, from Mon­day to Fri­day, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and at the Glen Robert­son Land­fill, 3485 Dal­housie St., County Road 23, Glen Robert­son, Mon­day, Tues­day, Thurs­day, Fri­day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wed­nes­day and Satur­day, from 8 a.m. to noon. The list of prod­ucts that can be dis­posed of in this fash­ion in­cludes tele­vi­sion sets, dis­play de­vices, com­put­ers and pe­riph­er­als, print­ers, tele­phones, cel­lu­lar de­vices, speak­ers, au­dio and video de­vices. The an­nual large item pick-up will take place the week of May 25. For the do-it-your­selfer, free ac­cess to land­fill site days will be held May 23, May 26 and May 30 at the Beaver Brook site and May 30 at the North Lan­caster dump.

The next haz­ardous house­hold waste and WEEE day is Satur­day, Septem­ber 19, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Smith­field Park, 119 Mil­i­tary Rd., Lan­caster.
