Roll out the rain bar­rels

The Mart­in­town and Dis­trict Hor­ti­cul­tural So­ci­ety is selling rain bar­rels to help fi­nance a new park at the com­mu­nity cen­tre be­side the Raisin River.

The last day for online or­der- ing is Sun­day, April 26 at noon.

The dis­tri­bu­tion is sched­uled for Thurs­day, April 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 4850 County Road 20 (Ap­ple Hill Road), Mart­in­town.

Prices be­gin at $60 per bar­rel. A va­ri­ety of op­tional items in­clud­ing flex­i­ble down­spout pipes, down­spout di­vert­ers, rain bar­rel stands, dis­pens­ing hose and ad­di­tional lengths of over­flow hose can also be pur- chased.

The so­ci­ety, South Glen­garry Town­ship and the Mart­in­town Good­timers As­so­ci­a­tion are in the process of mak­ing the park a re­al­ity. The pro­ject will in­clude the con­struc­tion of a deck with a gazebo, a pic­nic area, a me­mo­rial gar­den and walk­ways ac­ces­si­ble to ev­ery­one. The com­mu­nity-ori­ented park will en­hance the use of the com­mu­nity cen­tre and will be an ideal spot for a pic­nic, for friends to gather, or just to en­joy a quiet mo­ment in na­ture.

Since 1965, the so­ci­ety has been in­volved with im­prove­ments in the vil­lage, in­clud­ing land­scap­ing, plant­ing, and main­tain­ing the grounds of the lo­cal com­mu­nity cen­tre. Mem­bers also plant and main­tain the flow­ers in the vil­lage and con­trib­ute to Christ­mas light­ing and the Santa Claus Pa­rade.
