Dif­fi­cult to de­tect, morel mush­rooms are rare spring­time finds. Those in the know care­fully guard the lo­ca­tion of well-con­cealed patches where the de­li­cious mush­rooms grow. The for­est can be a good source of food at this time of year when all sorts of fungi and other ed­i­ble plants be­gin to emerge. But ig­no­rance is not bliss: For­agers should al­ways en­sure that their dis­cov­er­ies are safe to eat be­fore con­sum­ing any wild plant.
