The May 13, 1965 special edition of The Glengarry News reported the historic moment, the culmination of five years of work that resulted in the construction of the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria. In this supplement we reflect on that momentous collective achievement and look to the future of this valuable institution. A common sentiment was expressed in that special edition five decades ago: “This fine accomplishment is the r esult of a lot of people working together for the common good.” The institution has under gone many changes over the years. However, as the hospital continues to evolve, the attachment the community has to this vital health car e facility has not waned. Hospital board chair Jacqueline Fraser says it b est when she recalls the inauguration: “I remember we were so proud to have a hospital of our own. We are still very proud.”
