The chairman of the board
Local legal light, G. G. (Gabriel Gilles) Aubry, the first hospital board chair, was one of the catalysts behind construction.
At the initial meeting held five years before it was completed, Mr. Aubry supported the undertaking, “As long as I’m not saddled with another job of organizing,” he quipped. “Gabe“was saddled with a huge task, one he gladly and ably completed. As TheNews reported, “Mr. Aubry somehow found time through those years to squeeze in innumerable hospital meetings, to deal with government red tape and many other problems as they arose. He must have a feeling of satisfaction, of achievement, now that our hospital is a reality. He probably feels he has earned a rest; but then there is a board of governors to be selected and it will face problems, too. Some of those problems may be legal. Perhaps our new hospital will benefit if it retains his services, at the same fee he has not been charging.”
