Look­ing for­ward to judge­ment days

For many lo­cal 4-H club mem­bers, the high­lights of sum­mer are the op­por­tu­ni­ties they get to par­tic­i­pate in live­stock shows at area fairs.

Ex­hi­bi­tion sea­son kicks off in this dis­trict with the Maxville Fair that this year will be held from June 26 to 28.

One of the big events is the 4-H show­man­ship com­pe­ti­tion, held in con­junc­tion with the Hol­stein show. The 4-H con­test will be held June 27. Visit www.maxville­fair.ca for more in­for­ma­tion on the 2015 pro­gram. In early Au­gust, all roads lead to Wil­liamstown, where the old­est fair in Canada takes place Au­gust 7 to 9. High­lighted on the cal­en­dar is the Glen­garry 4-H Dairy Show which will take place Au­gust 7. Rib­bons and rosettes will be awarded in sev­eral di­vi­sions. In ad­di­tion to show­man­ship, there will be classes for var­i­ous breeds in­clud­ing Ayr­shire, Jersey and Hol­steins.

Through­out the ex­hi­bi­tion there will also be 4-H demon­stra­tions and dis­plays.

RING MAS­TERS: Live­stock mem­bers learn how to en­sure their charges al­ways put their best hooves for­ward.
