Terry Fox rocks at Char-Lan

Special to The News We asked Char-Lan District High school principal Catherine Cooper for her thoughts on how this school year went and she responded by saying: “It had been a exceptional year for Char-Lan, the students represented the school proudly and honourable in all forms.”
We also asked her for some highlights and here is what she said:
Athletics September’s Terry Fox Run had a huge participation from all the staff and students.
For the third straight year they had the most money per student than any other school in the district.
In cross country they had six runners qualify for EOSSAA, the girls hockey won the SD&G championship, for tennis the senior boys doubles and single were gold medalist and went on to the EOSSAA.
For soccer, the junior boys won the SD&G championship and won gold at the EAOSSAA.
This was also the second year for the lacrosse team and it was a very successful year as the team garnered a record of 6-2 and won the division championship in Peterborough.
For track and field they had 21 EOSSAA qualifiers, 13 east region qualifiers, and 7 OFSAA qualifiers.
Arts Char-Lan’s musical this year was a back to the 80s theme where over 30 students participated.
They also put together a play for Remembrance Day.
Social The school celebrated another great St-Andrew’s Day. They also held a black Friday shopping extravaganza, along with tons of after school activities such as archery, art, and dram.
They also held an air band competition.
Academics In academics Char-Lan had 12 red seal graduates from their two specialist High School Majors in agriculture and health and wellness, RBC grant and Jersey day offered a dance program, archery and golf for the students, in the skills competition which pits students with technical skills against each other. Kate Moffatt won a silver medal.
