Terry Fox rocks at Char-Lan

Spe­cial to The News We asked Char-Lan Dis­trict High school prin­ci­pal Cather­ine Cooper for her thoughts on how this school year went and she re­sponded by say­ing: “It had been a ex­cep­tional year for Char-Lan, the stu­dents rep­re­sented the school proudly and honourable in all forms.”

We also asked her for some high­lights and here is what she said:

Athletics Septem­ber’s Terry Fox Run had a huge par­tic­i­pa­tion from all the staff and stu­dents.

For the third straight year they had the most money per stu­dent than any other school in the dis­trict.

In cross coun­try they had six run­ners qual­ify for EOSSAA, the girls hockey won the SD&G cham­pi­onship, for tennis the se­nior boys dou­bles and sin­gle were gold medal­ist and went on to the EOSSAA.

For soc­cer, the ju­nior boys won the SD&G cham­pi­onship and won gold at the EAOSSAA.

This was also the sec­ond year for the lacrosse team and it was a very suc­cess­ful year as the team gar­nered a record of 6-2 and won the di­vi­sion cham­pi­onship in Peter­bor­ough.

For track and field they had 21 EOSSAA qual­i­fiers, 13 east re­gion qual­i­fiers, and 7 OFSAA qual­i­fiers.

Arts Char-Lan’s mu­si­cal this year was a back to the 80s theme where over 30 stu­dents par­tic­i­pated.

They also put to­gether a play for Re­mem­brance Day.

So­cial The school cel­e­brated an­other great St-Andrew’s Day. They also held a black Fri­day shop­ping ex­trav­a­ganza, along with tons of af­ter school ac­tiv­i­ties such as archery, art, and dram.

They also held an air band com­pe­ti­tion.

Aca­demics In aca­demics Char-Lan had 12 red seal grad­u­ates from their two spe­cial­ist High School Ma­jors in agri­cul­ture and health and wellness, RBC grant and Jersey day of­fered a dance program, archery and golf for the stu­dents, in the skills com­pe­ti­tion which pits stu­dents with tech­ni­cal skills against each other. Kate Mof­fatt won a sil­ver medal.
