Laura’s: Service, price and vast selection
When asked what she would like to see under her Christmas tree, Lynda Leroux of Laura’s Flowers & Fine Gifts, mentions a mouth-watering combination.
“The products I would most like to receive would be a charcuterie board made of local sourced wood and hand selected olive oil and balsamic vinegar with cheese and crackers to finish off the gift. Yum!!!”
The store at 1140 Brookdale Ave., Cornwall has been growing since it started out in 1988 on Augustus Street.
The reasons for the success are numerous: Quality, service, price, and vast selection of products that will not be found elsewhere.
“Some of our most popular gifts include Alex and Ani jewlery, olive oil and balsamic vinegar from our tasting bar, fresh flowers for all occasions, and of course who doesn’t like chocolate,” says Ms. Leroux.
“Customers’ tastes have changed over the years with gifts that have meaning to them such as Alex and Ani bracelets. They are based on different symbols that represent something meaningful for the buyer and recipient alike.”
It is important to shop locally, to ensure “there will be more variety of goods available to touch, taste, smell.”
She adds: “We keep people employed in our community.”
In the beginning, Laura’s Flowers & Fine Gifts started with fresh flowers, plants, giftware and home decor.
The business quickly outgrew that space and decided to move to a larger location that was able to accommodate its growth, in a tastefully restored building called Place Laurier. With a location change came a name change as well, to Laura’s The Art of Living & Giving, “to reflect our evolution as a company and how much more diverse we’ve become.”
“We now specialize in flowers, plants, gourmet food, Cornwall’s first and only olive oil and balsamic tasting bar, small housewares, clothing, jewelry and much more; a true lifestyle store. With over 6,000 square feet we are Canada’s largest store of its kind. We strive to improve the lives of our customers by always going the extra mile. Our staff takes the time to lend a friendly hand to everyone. Customers often tell us that Laura’s lifts them up when they’re feeling down and that’s something we don’t take lightly. We may be here to sell gifts, but our higher purpose is to make people feel their best.”
