Anick Bauer of Les paperies Left & Write Papier answers our Q&A.

What is the number one reason people should buy from you?

My shop carries a variety of cards and gifts. A lot of them are Canadian-made. Some of them come directly from the makers.

If you had a choice, what product in your store would you like to receive yourself?

There are so many things! Everything I order for the shop are things I would love to have in my home.

Ce sont mes coups de coeurs que je partage avec la communauté! But if I had to choose one, I would go with the illustrated world map by Baltic Club (Montréal). It would look nice in my living room!

What are your most popular products?

Birthday cards are always a go-to. In the gifts department, I would say the handmade soy candles (Almonte) and hand- made natural soaps (Eastern Townships) are very popular.

Have consumers’ tastes changed over the years?

Being that L&W is only one year old, I can’t really answer this at the moment. But I do get comments that it’s nice to see something so different, more personal in the cards area. People are looking for more than just a card. They want to be able to relate to the sentiment on the card. I always say that I sell kindness! Why should people shop locally? When you purchase locally, you support your community and invest in entrepreneurship. You help keeping the community alive and making it a destination.
