A spin on the traditional millinery
The Millinery At Cornerstone Farm, at 20189 Beaupre Rd., Green Valley, puts a spin on the traditional version of the millinery shop.
Historically, a millinery shop produced or acquired an inventory of garments for men, women and children, including hats, shirts, coats, dresses, caps, neckties and the like. Today, millineries typically are stores where hats are sold primarily to a female clientele.
The Millinery At Cornerstone Farm embraces the historical definition of the term and produces and sells items for all members of the family. Its distinctive clothing and accessories are made of luxurious, fine, natural fibres including soft wool from our flock of Shetland sheep.
Several products are made of repurposed clothing and fabrics. Used clothing such as coats, jackets, trousers and other items are recycled into practical, sensible and fashionable merchandise. Choosing to purchase items made of recycled materials will help in reducing the load placed on our landfill sites, thereby reducing the impact on the environment. The discarded clothing used in the production of the creations is acquired from local charity thrift shops, which helps in supporting the much needed services provided by these organizations.
Products are made at The Millinery on a small scale, allowing for unique garments and accessories made of natural, renewable fibres, mainly soft lamb's wool and kid mohair.
Concentrating on felted hats, knitted accessories and kid mohair socks, the products are geared to all members of the family, including those involved in cold weather outdoor activities. Natural fibres are known for their warmth, durability and moisture wicking ability, making them an ever growing alternative to man-made fibres, and offer a much lower carbon footprint than petroleum-based fibres. The Millinery also has The Yarn Shoppe and The Pantry.
If you want to try your hand at needlecraft or weaving, classes are available.
