Sunday morning, while having breakfast at a local restaurant, I was shocked, as were many others, to learn about Gerrit and Diana Sturkenboom of St. Raphael’s who lost their barn and animals in a fire Saturday evening. I was told that some animals were spared the tragedy. Luckily, the machine shed and house were not touched thanks to the firefighters who worked to prevent this. Our hearts go out to a great couple who have worked very hard for what they have.

Here is a list of the winners at last Monday’s euchre card party at the Salle Sacré Coeur in Alexandria. Winning for the ladies were Murielle Bellefeuille, Agathe Charbonneau, Rita Carrière, Linda Van Der Haeghe and for the men Germain Ramsay, Marcel Ranger, Rolland Paquette, Jean Lucien Larocque and Claude Robinson. The 50/50 winners were Agathe Charbonneau, Rita Carrière, Marcel Ranger, Rita MacLennan, Yvon DeRepentigny.

Door prizes went to Armand BonEnfant and Claude Robinson. Congratulations to all winners.

What a great day we had at the Cardinal sugar camp on Saturday. It was a fundraiser for the Make a Wish Foundation. There was entertainment and pancakes galore, silent auction and several items were up for bids.

The Glen Robertson spaghetti supper and jamboree started out very well. Everyone enjoyed the delicious supper but the evening had just began with music around 7:30 p.m. when Mother Nature or another disaster caused a lights out in the hall and all over Glen Robertson. We were all left in the dark, emergency lights came on and candles were put on tables but the evening was ruined. The organizers were quite disappointed but it was not of their doing. I still haven’t heard what the cause was. It was sleeting when we left; maybe this had something to do with it. Better luck next year.

Have you been to the Basic Needs store in Green Valley lately? There are a lot of changes going on. Crystal was telling me how the post office will be in the back of the store while in the front she will have a pizza counter. With no restaurant in Green Valley this will be a very good idea. Way to go, Crystal.

Birthday wishes going out to Rita (Campeau) Robinson who celebrated her 65th birthday Tuesday, March 17. A family gathering was held Sunday at the Pizzeria restaurant with husband J.K. and all the family to help her celebrate. Way to go, Rita.

God bless and have a safe week.

After the party

Hi, everyone. I hope everyone got over St Patrick's Day okay and aren't hung over from too much green beer. I can't believe that the first day of spring is Friday. It seems that spring is so far off but oh well I guess we will have to take the calendar for the truth.

The next diners meetings will be March 19, April 2 and April 16. Please phone to reserve at 613-525-4443.

The World Day of Prayer was held Friday, March 6, at the Church on the Hill in Alexandria. The WDOP was begun by women in Canada and the United States in 1922 and is now observed in more than 170 countries and in almost 2,000 communities across Canada. The service was written by the women of the Bahamas and prayers and songs were offered for our sisters and brothers living there.

In Canada, offerings received through the service provide grants for projects in Canada and around the world. Special thanks to Germain on the guitar and Louise on the saxophone for their beautiful interpretation of the song ”What I have done.” The WDOP will be held at St Martin of Tours Church March 4 in 2016.

During Lent, the way of the cross is being prayed every Friday at 3 p.m. Easter confessions will be held Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m.

Winners of Club 65 card party March 10 for Euchre were Rita MacLennan, Berthe Larocque, Juliette Robertson and JeanLucien Larocque. The 500 winner was Lucie Massie. The door prize was won by Isobel MacLennan. The next card party will be March 24.

I would like to wish congratulations to Isabelle and Jonathan McDonald on the birth of their daughter, Pascale Raelyn, 7 lb. 3 oz. and 19 3/4 inches long. She is the baby sister of Maelle and Abby. Proud grandparents are Joanne and D.J. McDonald and Lucie and Jean Pierre Brazeau.

I would like to wish a happy birthday to Thérèse Séguin. She celebrated Sunday.

If anyone would like to rent a table for the Expo Sale at St Martin of Tours, give Gisèle a call at 613-525-1223, this is an event not to be missed.

Well, that is all my news for now. I hope everyone has a great week and be good to your neighbours.
