Talk about care
It’s about conversations. It’s about decisions. It’s about how we care for each other.
That’s the thinking behind a series of presentations being offered at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) over the next few months. “We want everyone to start a conversation,” explains Kimberly Paterson, WDMH Social Worker. “Advance Care Planning is a process of thinking about and sharing your wishes for your future health and personal care. It can help you tell others what would be important if you were unable to speak for yourself.”
During the two- hour sessions, advance care planning and health care consent will be explained. As well, attendees will learn five simple steps they can take to develop a plan.
“Fifty per cent of Canadians have never talked to family and friends about what they’d want if they were ill and couldn’t speak for themselves,” adds Kimberly. Future sessions will be held April 25 from 6 to 8 pm; May 23 from 2 to 4 pm; and June 27 from 6 to 8 pm.
