Celtics rally to win
The Cornwall Celtics junior ‘C’ lacrosse team found itself trailing by three goals in the third period of Sunday afternoon action against the Barrie Bombers, before rallying to tie and then win in overtime, 10-8.
The county’s own Aodin MacDonell notched the game-winner with under three minutes remaining in the extra session. He also scored in the third period, kickstarting the comeback, where the Cornwall side scored five goals in a row.
Amongst the county contingent on the Celtics crew, league-leading point-getter Tyler Akins was held to just a goal and two assists in this one. Akins tops the league, through three weeks of action, in goals, assists, and points.
The brothers Vipond, Brendan and Ryan, were held off the scoresheet, but contributed with the tenacious physicality. Brendan was also counted on to win key faceoffs.
