Art ex­hibit opens

An art ex­hi­bi­tion ti­tled Stee­los­o­phy & The Frag­ile Im­age opens this Satur­day in Alexandria at Ga­lerie La­grande­cache.

The ex­hibit will fea­ture the ab­sorb­ing and com­plex work of one of the Canada’s most in­trigu­ing artists, Har­ald Glass, Prof. Emer­i­tus, Depart­ment of Art at the Uni­ver­sity of Toronto, teacher, mu­si­cian, sculp­tor and pho­tog­ra­pher, world trav­eller and mo­tor­cy­cle racer and me­chanic.

The artist him­self will be in at­ten­dance at the vernissage on Sept. 9. The Lithua­nian-born Glass im­mi­grated to Canada 30 years ago, ac­cept­ing an ap­point­ment to teach sculp­ture and Vis­ual Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­sity of Toronto, a po­si­tion he held un­til his re­tire­ment in 2002. The artist lives with his wife Grace in a stu­dio home and gallery on 11 wooded acres in Mill­book, On­tario. His works can be found in the per­ma­nent col­lec­tions of the Na­tional Gallery of Canada, the Cana­dian Musuem of Con­tem­po­rary Pho­tog­ra­phy, the On­tario Mu­seum of Art, and the Walker Art Cen­ter in Min­ne­ap­o­lis.

The show runs at Ga­lerie La­grande­cache at 7 Main Street N. in Alexandria un­til Dec. 2. Ad­mis­sion is free. The hours are Thurs­day through Sun­day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by ap­point­ment.
