Art exhibit opens
An art exhibition titled Steelosophy & The Fragile Image opens this Saturday in Alexandria at Galerie Lagrandecache.
The exhibit will feature the absorbing and complex work of one of the Canada’s most intriguing artists, Harald Glass, Prof. Emeritus, Department of Art at the University of Toronto, teacher, musician, sculptor and photographer, world traveller and motorcycle racer and mechanic.
The artist himself will be in attendance at the vernissage on Sept. 9. The Lithuanian-born Glass immigrated to Canada 30 years ago, accepting an appointment to teach sculpture and Visual Studies at the University of Toronto, a position he held until his retirement in 2002. The artist lives with his wife Grace in a studio home and gallery on 11 wooded acres in Millbook, Ontario. His works can be found in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Musuem of Contemporary Photography, the Ontario Museum of Art, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
The show runs at Galerie Lagrandecache at 7 Main Street N. in Alexandria until Dec. 2. Admission is free. The hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
