County’s ju­nior ‘B’ hockey teams set to drop puck on ’17 sea­son

BY SEAN BRAY Sports Edi­tor It was Gordie Howe hat trick night for a new ad­di­tion to the Alexandria ju­nior ‘B’ Glens hockey team, as Mike Gibeault notched a goal and as­sist, to go along with a late sec­ond-pe­riod fight, in Sept. 1 ex­hi­bi­tion hockey ac­tion at the Glen­garry Sports Palace.

The Glens started the third pe­riod trail­ing the ri­val Char-Lan Rebels 5-3, mount­ing a come­back on three unan­swered mark­ers to skate away with a 6-5 vic­tory.

Austin Ladouceur, from Lee Seguin, be­gan the re­bound, with a power-play goal that came off a stretch of sus­tained pres­sure in the at­tack­ing zone.

Waves of Alexandria as­saults en­sued, and less than two min­utes later, the Glens had the equal­izer, as Kevin How­son found the back of the Char-Lan net, as­sisted by Nash McLean and Cedrik Roth.

With just seven sec­onds left on the clock, the Glens iced the vic­tory, as Reggy StSurin scored off a feed from In­nis MacLeod.

Ear­lier Alexandria goals were net­ted by How­son, McLean, and Gibeault, while earn­ing as­sists were Wil­liam Beaupre (3), MacLeod, and Gibeault.

For Char-Lan, goals came from Mathieu Sabourin (3), Sam Gau­dreau, Trys­ten Lavoie. Helpers went to Kyle Gas­con (2), Parker Tall­man, Ja­son Cos­sette, Pierre-Luc Sabourin, Kevin Doyle, and Dy­lan Seguin

Bren­nan Nadeau earned the win, stop­ping 10 of 12 shots he faced. He played the sec­ond half of the game, tak­ing over from Se­bastien Moreau.

Daw­son Irv­ing was tagged with the loss in the Char-Lan net. Dar­ius John­son was be­tween the pipes for the first half of the match.

The win for Alexandria evened the Glens’ pre-sea­son record at 1-1, while the Rebels dropped to 0-2.

In Cas­sel­man on Aug. 31, the Rebels fell to the Vikings 5-3. Char-Lan goals came from Cos­sette, Evan Hunt­ley, and Taran Fi­acco. Grant Craig took the loss in net, de­spite a 36-save ef­fort.
