County’s junior ‘B’ hockey teams set to drop puck on ’17 season
BY SEAN BRAY Sports Editor It was Gordie Howe hat trick night for a new addition to the Alexandria junior ‘B’ Glens hockey team, as Mike Gibeault notched a goal and assist, to go along with a late second-period fight, in Sept. 1 exhibition hockey action at the Glengarry Sports Palace.
The Glens started the third period trailing the rival Char-Lan Rebels 5-3, mounting a comeback on three unanswered markers to skate away with a 6-5 victory.
Austin Ladouceur, from Lee Seguin, began the rebound, with a power-play goal that came off a stretch of sustained pressure in the attacking zone.
Waves of Alexandria assaults ensued, and less than two minutes later, the Glens had the equalizer, as Kevin Howson found the back of the Char-Lan net, assisted by Nash McLean and Cedrik Roth.
With just seven seconds left on the clock, the Glens iced the victory, as Reggy StSurin scored off a feed from Innis MacLeod.
Earlier Alexandria goals were netted by Howson, McLean, and Gibeault, while earning assists were William Beaupre (3), MacLeod, and Gibeault.
For Char-Lan, goals came from Mathieu Sabourin (3), Sam Gaudreau, Trysten Lavoie. Helpers went to Kyle Gascon (2), Parker Tallman, Jason Cossette, Pierre-Luc Sabourin, Kevin Doyle, and Dylan Seguin
Brennan Nadeau earned the win, stopping 10 of 12 shots he faced. He played the second half of the game, taking over from Sebastien Moreau.
Dawson Irving was tagged with the loss in the Char-Lan net. Darius Johnson was between the pipes for the first half of the match.
The win for Alexandria evened the Glens’ pre-season record at 1-1, while the Rebels dropped to 0-2.
In Casselman on Aug. 31, the Rebels fell to the Vikings 5-3. Char-Lan goals came from Cossette, Evan Huntley, and Taran Fiacco. Grant Craig took the loss in net, despite a 36-save effort.
