U15 girls Hearts top ERSL, ad­vance to Shield fi­nal

Glen­garry’s U15 girls Hearts soc­cer team has qual­i­fied to play in the East Re­gion Shield fi­nal, on Sept. 17 in Perth, against a team from Rus­sell.

The Hearts earned the berth with a 1-0 vic­tory in the ER Shield semi­fi­nal, played Aug. 24 against Ot­tawa City Sil­ver. Brid­get Lefe­b­vre had the lone tally for Glen­garry.

ERSL league play con­cluded on Aug. 29, when the Hearts got past Ot­tawa City Blue 3-1. Scor­ing for Glen­garry were Alexia De­mers, Michaela Kunz, and Kady Jeau­rond.

The vic­tory ce­mented a 2017 record of 11 wins and 1 loss to top the U15 ta­ble, with

33 points. The team also ranked first in goal dif­fer­en­tial, at +42, and recorded 5 shutouts.

Kunz was first amongst her team mem­bers in goal scor­ing over the sum­mer, hav­ing found the back of the net 23 times, in­clud­ing league and ER Shield play.

Kather­ine Thomp­son back­stopped four of her team’s five shutouts.
