New board head

John Cameron, As­so­ci­ate Di­rec­tor of Ed­u­ca­tion with the Catholic District School Board of East­ern On­tario, will suc­ceed Wil­liam Gart­land when the 32year veteran ed­u­ca­tion re­signs from his di­rec­tor’s post in Jan­uary.

Mr. Cameron, whose cur­rent post in­cludes su­per­vi­sion of schools in the Corn­wall area, has been an ed­u­ca­tor for 26 years.

Board Chair Todd Lalonde says: “Mr. Cameron’s ded­i­ca­tion to Catholic ed­u­ca­tion can­not be ques­tioned. He has demon­strated for many years, his ded­i­ca­tion to en­sur­ing that stu­dents have the op­por­tu­nity to flour­ish in a faith­filled learn­ing en­vi­ron­ment. He is a strong ad­vo­cate for our be­liefs and val­ues and I look for­ward to work­ing closely with him in this new role.”

Mr. Gart­land an­nounced re­cently that he would re­tire at the end of 2017 af­ter serv­ing as a teacher and an ad­min­is­tra­tor for the past 32 years. He has been CDSBEO Di­rec­tor of Ed­u­ca­tion for the past 11 years.

Mr. Cameron has been a teacher, vice-prin­ci­pal, prin­ci­pal, su­per­in­ten­dent.

With an en­rol­ment of 12,800 stu­dents, the Catholic District School Board of East­ern On­tario op­er­ates 40 ele­men­tary and 10 sec­ondary schools across eight coun­ties.
