Junior ‘B’ Rebels split
The Char-Lan CCHL2 Rebels bagged their second victory of the young season on Sunday, prevailing in Winchester, 5-3 over the Hawks.
The Rebels built a 2-0 lead on goals from Liam MacDonald and Sam Gaudreau. The Hawks then rallied with three tallies to take the lead.
Char-Lan got back on even terms at the midpoint of the third period, when Jason Cossette found the back of the Winchester net.
Tyler Eldridge potted the go-ahead marker a minute later, and Gaudreau added a short-handed insurance goal with under a minute remaining in the match.
Cossette also earned a pair of assists, with the other helpers credited to Evan Huntley, Matthew Harrington, Gaudreau, Sam Ferland, MacDonald, and Pierre-Luc Sabourin. Dawson Irving backstopped the victory, making 28 saves. A night earlier in Williamstown, the results couldn’t have been more different, as the visiting Whitewater Kings pasted the Rebels 6-0.
Darien Johnson was the Char-Lan goaltender of record, playing just under half the game before Irving took over in the hemp hut. Each netminder was charged with three goals.
Char-Lan went zero-for-five on the power play, while their penalty kill was strong, holding off the Kings on four chances.
Tomorrow, Sept. 28, the Rebels (2-4-1-0) skate into Casselman to take on the powerhouse Vikings, who are 4-1-1-0 so far this season.
On Saturday night (Sept. 30) at 8 p.m., Char-Lan will be back at their home rink in Williamstown, hosting the Westport Rideaus (3-2-0-1).
