Members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) arrested two Québec men and seized more than 1,100 kg of illegal fine-cut tobacco following an investigation in South Glengarry September 19.
Felix St. Georges-Gobeil, 22, and Drake Simpson-Gratton, 19, were charged with possession of unstamped tobacco. They were apprehended after being spotted allegedly unloading cargo from a boat to an onshore van near Westley’s Point, and attempting to flee from police into a nearby cornfield.
Both were located and arrested shortly thereafter with assistance from the SD&G OPP and an OPP canine unit.
A search of the van uncovered 65 black garbage bags containing a total of 1,161 kgs of contraband tobacco. They are to appear in Cornwall court November 21.
