Glengarry residents were responsible for more than half of the monetary donations and nearly a quarter of the food items received during the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Provincial Police Auxiliary Unit’s eighth annual Stuff a Cruiser With Food drive held October 28. The event, which took place at five locales, including Chartrand’s Your Independent Grocer in Alexandria, raised $2,480 in cash and gift card donations and generated approximately 5,100 pounds (2.3 tonnes) in food item donations. Locally, organizers collected $1,450 in cash and gift card donations, as well as approximately 1,200 lb. (half a tonne) of foodstuffs. Those figures represent 58.5 and 24 per cent, respectively, of the overall totals for those two categories. Both numbers also surpassed the Alexandria totals for 2016, when $1,420 in cash and approximately 1,000 lb. of food were collected. The local numbers boosted overall 2017 figures that saw cash donations across the Counties drop by 19 per cent and food donations fall 14 per cent over 2016’s totals.
