Glen­garry res­i­dents were re­spon­si­ble for more than half of the mone­tary do­na­tions and nearly a quar­ter of the food items re­ceived dur­ing the Stor­mont, Dun­das and Glen­garry Provin­cial Po­lice Aux­il­iary Unit’s eighth an­nual Stuff a Cruiser With Food drive held Oc­to­ber 28. The event, which took place at five lo­cales, in­clud­ing Char­trand’s Your In­de­pen­dent Gro­cer in Alexan­dria, raised $2,480 in cash and gift card do­na­tions and gen­er­ated ap­prox­i­mately 5,100 pounds (2.3 tonnes) in food item do­na­tions. Lo­cally, or­ga­niz­ers col­lected $1,450 in cash and gift card do­na­tions, as well as ap­prox­i­mately 1,200 lb. (half a tonne) of food­stuffs. Those fig­ures rep­re­sent 58.5 and 24 per cent, re­spec­tively, of the over­all to­tals for those two cat­e­gories. Both num­bers also sur­passed the Alexan­dria to­tals for 2016, when $1,420 in cash and ap­prox­i­mately 1,000 lb. of food were col­lected. The lo­cal num­bers boosted over­all 2017 fig­ures that saw cash do­na­tions across the Coun­ties drop by 19 per cent and food do­na­tions fall 14 per cent over 2016’s to­tals.
