Glen­garry DHS honours top ath­letes from 2017-18 school year

On Mon­day, Glen­garry District High School held a stu­dent as­sem­bly to cel­e­brate the sports year that was and to hon­our top Gaels ath­letes.

Amongst the big awards were Ath­lete of the Year honours, pre­sented to a se­nior-level in­di­vid­ual “who has a good at­ten­dance record, demon­strates lead­er­ship, ath­letic ex­cel­lence, self-dis­ci­pline, and is heav­ily in­volved in ath­let­ics at GDHS.”

Brooke Lapierre, a force in bas­ket­ball, ten­nis, soccer, track and field, and cross-coun­try run­ning was the fe­male re­cip­i­ent, while Dove Rick­erd earned the male award, for his con­tri­bu­tion to bas­ket­ball, vol­ley­ball, and soccer.

Sportsper­son Awards, pre­sented to stu­dent-ath­letes who “are fair and honourable,” went to Rylee Franklin (fe­male) and Xaa­vian Ali (male).

Thomas Nuss­baumer re­ceived the Brian Fil­ion Award for his con­tri­bu­tion to Gaels soccer.

Kady Jeaurond was hon­oured with the Li­ons Club Award for her ded­i­ca­tion and ex­cel­lence in track and field.

The Ju­nior Fe­male Ath­lete of the Year Award went to Kris­ten MacRae, for her role in bas­ket­ball, vol­ley­ball, soccer, track and field, and bad­minton.

Crew Rick­erd and Lo­gan Keuren­t­jes shared the Ju­nior Male Ath­lete of the Year tro­phy in what was a com­pet­i­tive class. Rick­erd played soccer, bas­ket­ball, and vol­ley­ball, while Keuren­t­jes was ac­tive in soccer, vol­ley­ball, ten­nis, and foot­ball.
