Job picture keeps improving
The region’s unemploment rate has decreased by more than one per cent since last year, according to Statistics Canada.
The jobless rate in the district is now 5.4 per cent, compared to 7.2 per cent in August of 2017.
At the start of August, the regional unemployment rate was 5.7 per cent, down from 6 per cent in July, 6.3 per cent in June and 6.6 per cent in May. The figures are for a region that encompasses Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Frontenac, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville and Renfrew counties.
On a national level, the jobless rate is 6.8 per cent, while in Ontario, the unemployment rate of 5.4 per cent is the lowest it has been since 2000.
