Job pic­ture keeps im­prov­ing

The re­gion’s un­em­plo­ment rate has de­creased by more than one per cent since last year, ac­cord­ing to Sta­tis­tics Canada.

The job­less rate in the district is now 5.4 per cent, com­pared to 7.2 per cent in Au­gust of 2017.

At the start of Au­gust, the re­gional un­em­ploy­ment rate was 5.7 per cent, down from 6 per cent in July, 6.3 per cent in June and 6.6 per cent in May. The fig­ures are for a re­gion that en­com­passes Stor­mont, Dun­das, Glen­garry, Prescott, Rus­sell, Fron­tenac, La­nark, Leeds and Grenville and Ren­frew coun­ties.

On a na­tional level, the job­less rate is 6.8 per cent, while in On­tario, the un­em­ploy­ment rate of 5.4 per cent is the low­est it has been since 2000.
